Itinerary
Cusco – Mollepata – Challacancha – Humantay Lake – Soraypampa (Sky Lodge Dome)
We will begin our adventure by picking you up from your hotel at 6:00 am, and drive to Mollepata for breakfast, before continuing our journey to our starting point at Cruzpata. After arriving at Cruzpata, we will start our trek by hiking up a gradual incline to Challacancha, where we will be surrounded by breathtaking views of the Andean mountains.
Our first camping spot will be at Rayan Nioc, where we will set up camp and enjoy lunch. After lunch, we will hike to the beautiful Laguna de Humantay, where you can relax and take in the stunning views of the turquoise water and surrounding mountains.
On day one, we will cover a distance of approximately 10 km, with an estimated walking time of 4-5 hours. The highest altitude point of the day will be around 4,200 m, which is where we will see the beautiful Laguna de Humantay.
At Rayan Nioc, we will experience the best of glamping as we stay in luxury domes equipped with comfortable beds and hot showers. Enjoy the magnificent views and relax in the tranquility of the Andes as we prepare for the next day’s adventure.
Soraypampa – Salkantay Pass – Huaracmachay – Chaullay (Sky Lodge Dome)
As we set off on our Salkantay Trek adventure, we will begin the day with a hearty breakfast at dawn, and we’ll start hiking around 7 am. This day’s trek is the most challenging, and it’ll take us approximately 7-8 hours to complete. We’ll be walking uphill for the first four hours, making our way to the highest point of the trek, known as Abra Salkantay (4650m/15200ft). The stunning views of the surrounding mountains will make this arduous climb well worth the effort.
After a much-needed rest at the pass, we will start our descent through a breathtaking cloud forest until we reach Huayracpunku, where we’ll stop for a delicious lunch. We’ll continue hiking through the lush jungle and make our way to our second camping spot for the night, either at Chaullay or Colcapampa (3000m/9800ft), depending on the group’s pace. The second day of the Salkantay Trek will cover approximately 22 km, and we’ll experience an elevation change of around 1650m.

In Santa Teresa, we will stop for lunch and take a break before continuing our trek for another 2 hours to reach our campsite in the hot springs area. This campsite is known for its natural hot springs that come from the ground and are heated by volcanic activity in the area. So, after a long day of hiking, you can relax and rejuvenate your tired muscles in the hot springs.

About Salkantay trek
The Salkantay Trek is a popular alternative to the Inca Trail for those seeking a challenging and scenic trek to Machu Picchu in Peru. The trek takes you through diverse landscapes, including snow-capped mountains, lush rainforests, and traditional Andean villages, before reaching the famous Inca ruins.
The trek typically lasts five days and four nights, with a total distance of approximately 75 kilometers (47 miles). Along the way, you will reach an altitude of 4,600 meters (15,000 feet) at the Salkantay Pass, which offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountain range.
The Salkantay Trek is considered a moderate to difficult hike, and trekkers are advised to be in good physical condition and acclimatized to the altitude before attempting the trek. Many tour operators offer guided tours with experienced guides who provide information about the local flora and fauna, as well as the cultural significance of the area.
The Salkantay Trek is a popular option for those who are unable to obtain permits for the Inca Trail, which has a limited number of daily permits available. The Salkantay Trek also offers a more remote and less crowded experience than the Inca Trail, with fewer restrictions on group sizes and camping locations.
