Itinerary
Cusco - Lares - wacahuasi
In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel in Cusco and driven to the village of Lares, which is approximately a 3-hour drive.
Upon arrival in Lares, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the local hot springs and relax.
After lunch, you’ll start your trek by hiking for about 3 to 4 hours to the village of Huacawasi.
Along the way, you’ll enjoy beautiful mountain scenery and pass through traditional Andean quechuas communities.
You’ll spend the night in wacahuasi, where you’ll be welcomed by a local family and have the chance to immerse yourself in the local culture.
Wacahuasi - Ipsaycocha Pass - Patacancha
After breakfast, you’ll continue your trek and hike uphill to reach the Ipsaycocha Pass, situated at an altitude of approximately 4,450 meters (14,599 feet).
From the pass, you’ll be rewarded with stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
After a short break, you’ll descend towards the community of Patacancha, where you’ll set up camp for the night.
Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to interact with local villagers and learn about their traditional way of life.
Patacancha - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes
On this day, you’ll hike from Patacancha to the town of Ollantaytambo, known for its well-preserved Inca ruins.
You’ll explore the archaeological site of Ollantaytambo and learn about its historical significance.
In the afternoon, you’ll board a train from Ollantaytambo to the town of Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu.
Once you arrive in Aguas Calientes, you’ll check into your accommodation and have the evening to relax and prepare for your visit to Machu Picchu the next day.
Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Ollantaytambo - Cusco
Early in the morning, you’ll take a bus from Aguas Calientes to the entrance of Machu Picchu.
You’ll have a guided tour of the ancient Inca citadel, exploring its impressive temples, terraces, and other architectural wonders.
After the guided tour, you’ll have free time to explore Machu Picchu on your own, hike to the iconic viewpoint of Huayna Picchu (if you have a separate permit), or simply soak in the awe-inspiring atmosphere of this UNESCO World Heritage site.
In the afternoon, you’ll take a bus back to Aguas Calientes and board a train back to Ollantaytambo, From Ollantaytambo you’ll be transferred by Van back to Cusco.

The common misconception is that South America is always hot, however, due to the higher altitude of the Andes, the temperature can be quite chilly, especially during the night. We suggest bringing either a duffel bag or backpack, whichever is more convenient for you to carry, and also a daypack of suitable size.
